With more parts of the State now being drought-declared AgForce is aiming to ensure producers wishing to harvest mulga are aware of their obligations under both State and Federal legislation.
AgForce continues to advocate for mulga fodder harvesting that is compliant under Queensland's Accepted Development Vegetation Clearing Codes system to be fully recognised as an equivalent low-risk activity under the Environmental Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act). Until this is achieved, producers are encouraged to:
- Retain a copy of your formal notification to the Queensland Government to harvest under the (Accepted Development Vegetation Clearing Codes – Fodder Harvesting).
- Harvest only in areas that have been previously harvested (at any time);
- Keep a screenshot or copy of the current Department of Clime Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) online guidance material; and
- Where there is any uncertainty, complete the recommended EPBC self-assessment template and retain a copy.
Until AgForce receives formal confirmation that there is no requirement to conduct a self-assessment for fodder harvesting, AgForce urges producers to contact the EPBC hotline on 1800 920 528.
