Recent national media coverage has raised questions about the Australian Government's administration of the Fuel and Fertiliser Security Facility, including concerns around transparency, company selection and competition.
AgForce has consistently advocated that any government support measures should be transparent, preserve competition across the supply chain and provide equitable access for all suppliers, with any benefits ultimately flowing through to producers through fair fuel and fertiliser access and pricing.
Reports have also indicated calls for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to examine the operation of the scheme. AgForce has maintained from the outset that transparency and accountability are essential to ensuring the facility delivers for Australian agriculture.
At the same time, the temporary fuel excise reduction ended on 2 August 2026. While conflict in the Middle East continues to create uncertainty in global energy markets, the Australian Government has advised that Australia's fuel supply remains stable.
According to the Minister Chris Bowen’s (Minister for Climate Change and Energy) recent press conference it was announced there are 44 fuel tankers carrying approximately 3.1 billion litres of fuel are currently on the water bound for Australia. National fuel reserves currently stand at:
- Petrol: 43 days
- Diesel: 39 days
- Jet fuel: 34 days
