15 June 2026. Janet Reddan, AgForce Southern Inland Regional Director
Things are moving along quite well in Southern Inland Queensland, but the main issues have not changed much in the past few months.
A bit of rain over recent weeks has led to some of us being able to plant a late winter crop.
But while that’s good news for some, there are others who have missed out completely.
Autumn rainfall in parts of southern Queensland was either below or very much below average.
That means there are some in the area who’ve made the tough decision to reduce planting.
And a potential drought declaration might not be far off in southern parts of the region without further rain.
It is something the government has been talking about.
A drought declaration would mean some support for those who need it, things like the possibility of loans, some rebates on the cost of power and water licenses.
We are looking forward to next week, with our Innovation in Ag Field Day at “Avenel” in Roma.
There’s still plenty of time for people to come along.
It’s a chance to talk face to face with other members about the things that affect us all, like the reforms to the EPBC Act and what they mean for land management, as well as fuel and fertiliser cost increases.
We’ll also have representatives from companies like Telstra, Olsson's, AGDATA, AgBot, Vence and LandWatch Australia to name a few.
And most importantly, there’ll be lunch, post-event drinks and networking.
I hope to see you there.
