Mitchell beef producer Anthony “Bim” Struss has been named the AgForce Producer of the Year 2025, recognising his outstanding leadership, innovation, and lifelong service to Queensland’s cattle industry and rural communities.
Bim and his wife Susan operate a leading breeding and backgrounding enterprise north of Mitchell, producing premium EU and PCAS-accredited Hereford and Angus cattle for domestic and international markets. For more than two decades, he has built a reputation as an early adopter of agricultural innovation, from renewable energy and digital farm management to advanced genetics and sustainability practices.
A long-serving AgForce member, Bim has contributed across nearly every level of the organisation — from his time as Cattle Board President and General Board Director, to his leadership as Chair of the Leasehold Land Committee, where he helped deliver major freeholding reforms that benefited Queensland leaseholders.
He has represented producers nationally through Cattle Council Australia, where he chaired committees on marketing, biosecurity, and animal welfare. His deep understanding of industry challenges and his willingness to advocate tirelessly for Queensland producers have made him a respected and trusted voice in agriculture.
Bim’s impact extends far beyond his own paddocks. He has served on the Mitchell and District Landcare Association, chaired the Maranoa Kangaroo Harvesters and Growers Cooperative, and led the BeefBank Food Charity, which provides beef to food relief organisations.
In 2025, he chaired the Great Australian Charity Cattle Drive, which saw 1,680 head of cattle travel from Longreach to Roma to raise awareness of food insecurity — providing more than 300,000 meals to regional Queensland families.
He was also recognised as 2024 Citizen of the Year and 2025 Australian of the Year (Maranoa Regional Council – Mitchell District) for his community leadership and service.
Young Producers Council (YPC) Representative and Judge Skye Titmarsh said this year’s competition reflected the diversity and strength of Queensland’s agricultural community.
“This year’s competition saw a lot of variety in terms of age, experience and roles amongst our nominees — with everyone deserving their nomination in the competition, without a doubt! After much discussion, it was decided that Bim Struss be awarded the 2025 AgForce Producer of the Year Award.
As a young producer myself, just getting started, it was inspiring to see such a long, successful history of contribution and representation to Queensland agriculture as Bim has had — resulting in a long list of achievements that cannot be acquired without a great deal of dedication and resilience.
Bim has also had momentous accomplishments within the last 12 months with the successful completion of The Great Australian Charity Cattle Drive. The Cattle Drive created many opportunities for individuals to benefit from the experience, the beef, and the moral of providing — which as producers is what we do best and want to see continue.
This award is designed as a token of appreciation and a way to inspire our ever-growing industry. Congratulations and thank you, Bim!”
Upon receiving the honour, Bim Struss said he was deeply humbled by the recognition and proud to share it with his wife, Susan.
“It is a very humbling experience, or a very humbling position to be in, to think that there was a number of people that put in for the award, I suspect, and I've been chosen to take that. But I want to reiterate that in taking this on, taking this award or accepting this award, I do it beside my wife who has stood beside me all my life.”
The AgForce Producer of the Year Award celebrates Queensland producers who demonstrate excellence in production, leadership, sustainability, and community contribution. It recognises those who not only achieve success on-farm but also champion the future of agriculture through innovation and service.
