Skills Insight has commenced work on three new projects to improve skills and training in the agriculture and horticulture related industries.

Industry input into the projects is crucial so that the revised skills standards and qualifications meet current skills needs. Stakeholders are being consulted on what is required to improve the current standards.

Throughout April and May, webinars and consultation workshops will be held across various locations to collect feedback, and draft documents will be made available for comment on the Skills Insight website in May.

For more information, to register for a consultation workshop and/or subscribe to updates, please visit the project webpages.

The three AHC projects are:

Livestock Operations Project
Over 123,000 people contribute their skills and knowledge to Australia's livestock industry. It is important that skills standards for working with and alongside livestock are kept up to date, so they reflect the latest technologies, equipment and animal handling techniques. Consultation is underway to revise 70 units and one qualification relating to the livestock industry. Visit the project page.

Shearing and Wool Classing Project

Shearers, wool handlers, and wool classers possess unique skills in animal behaviour and handling techniques, working quickly and consistently, and maintaining safe work practices. National qualifications are being reviewed to align with the evolving skill needs of these roles, to support the quality and maximise the value of wool and fibre for various products. Visit the project page.

Rural Operations Project
The Certificate II in Rural Operations provides foundational skills required for roles in rural and regional industries. Consultation is underway to identify how this qualification is currently being used and how it can better meet the unique needs of the learners and workplaces that require these skills. Visit the project page.

Throughout the projects, there will be numerous opportunities for industry stakeholders to contribute their insights. In addition to the in-person consultation workshops, there will be webinars, email, phone calls, and an online feedback hub.
