AgForce SIPP had two events last week for high school students to talk about everything agriculture careers.

On Tuesday, eighteen year 10 students from Calvary Christian College learnt the career pathways of two team members Kellie and Emily before working in teams to discuss what transferable skills may apply to a range of industry professions both in and outside the agricultural world. A huge thank you to our guest speakers Matt Norton from AgDSA and Richard Hamilton at Mitta Agricultural Company who shared their stories, career pathways, knowledge and insights into what a career in ag can look like.

On Saturday, 120 students from Calvary Christian College, Livingstone Christian College, Rochedale SHS, Caboolture SHS, Corinda SHS and Scots PGC attended the Calvary Livestock Challenge. Students undertook a personality profile to get them to start to think about where they are might fit in the agriculture sector. Daniel Counsell, AgForce Cattle Policy Director and Cam Parker then spoke with the students about their journey in agriculture and how they got where they are today.

A few top points the students took away:

  • You don’t have to come from an agricultural background to have a career in ag.
  • You don’t have to work on a farm, there are many careers within an urban environment.
  • Chase what you want, go out and ask for what you want, you never know where it may lead.
  • Just because you have your mind set on one thing, doesn’t mean it can’t change.

Agricultural careers are in abundance with such a variety of pathways in this ever-evolving world.
