AgForce is preparing a formal submission as part of a Government review of the Rural Plant Code of Practice.

The review, which includes a public consultation phase, focuses on workforce safety surrounding machinery or on-farm vehicles or tools, and will consider what changes are necessary to ensure the Code remains fit-for-purpose and supports the agriculture industry to meet legislative obligations.

A number of key areas have been identified as requiring significant attention:

  • Tractor rollover protection
  • Quad Bikes and side-by-side vehicles
  • Technological advancements
  • Electrical risks
  • Isolation and fatigue

Although it underwent two minor desktop reviews in 2012 and 2018, the Rural Plant Code of Practice has not had a thorough going over since its introduction in 2004.

AgForce’s submission will be overseen by the Workforce and Safety Committee. Feedback is invited via secretary Michael Kern at KernM@agforceqld.org.au

Members are also encouraged to lodge their own submission no later than 5pm on Monday, November 29.
