Flood assistance

What help is out there?

Clean up funds secured
Producers who want to access grants of between $10,000 and $25,000, should call QRAA on 1800 623 946 or visit their website for more information. Please ensure you are taking photographic and other evidence of the impact of the floods on your business (damaged dam walls, submerged machinery, fences destroyed) as some form of evidence will be necessary. These one off grants are now available so that producers can get on with the clean up efforts once the water subsided.

Lost stock
At AgForce’s request, the DPI&F have prepared a response for producers wanting to locate stock displaced by the floods. NLIS will be useful tool and the DPI&F are providing some NLIS readers to assist producers if they do not have their own. More information is available on the AgForce Cattle web pages and any producers who have lost stock should contact DPI&F on 13 25 23.

Phone help for flood victims
Telstra has announced a relief package for its residential and small business customers in the Emerald region who have been evacuated from their homes or whose phone services have been affected by floods. The package includes free call diversion from fixed lines to another fixed line or mobile and fixed line rates for mobile customers who have been evacuated from their homes or lost their service (please report this to Telstra to access). A range of other options are available for those whose homes have been severely damaged by the floods. Call Telstra on 13 22 03. This may also apply to other flood hit areas.

Tax return breaks
The Australian Tax Office says residents having problems meeting their tax obligations because of the floods, or who have recently received a letter or notice, should call 13 11 42 to make arrangements to meet their individual circumstances. The Tax Office can: fast track refunds, give extra time to pay debts (without interest charges), provide more time to meet BAS and other lodgement obligations and help reconstruct tax records where documents have been destroyed. Visit the ATO website for detailed information.
